2009 Youth Intervention Conference

The stakes are higher than they have ever been before and the challenges of meeting the needs of all youth continue to rise. The 2009 Youth Intervention Conference will bring together youth service professionals for 25+ breakout sessions, keynote addresses from nationally known experts in various youth intervention fields, a resource and program-sharing exhibitors hall and intimate round table lunch conversations.  This conference will provide take-home resources to help you help all youth “thrive in changing times” and is especially applicable to the work of social workers, educators and administrators, youth program professionals, law enforcement, mental health professionals and all who work with youth.

Conference tracks for youth service professionals will focus on Academic Achievement, Safety & Violence Prevention, Mental and Physical Health of All Children and Youth, Developing and Enhancing Family and Community Support and Working with Specific Populations. Continuing Education Credits will be available.

CONFERENCE GOAL
The 2009 Youth Intervention Conference will bring together youth service professionals for 40+ breakout sessions, keynote addresses from nationally known experts in various youth intervention fields, a resource and program-sharing exhibitors hall and intimate round table lunch conversations.  This conference will provide take-home resources to help all youth “thrive in changing times” and is especially applicable to the work of social workers, educators and administrators, youth program professionals, law enforcement, mental health professionals and all who work with youth.  Participants will leave with the skills needed to develop action plans to improve their services to youth and their families by applying the principles and exercises in this conference.

OBJECTIVES

  • Participants will acquire take-home resources to improve their services to youth and their families
  • Participants will learn from local and national experts in the track areas of academic achievement, safety and violence prevention, mental and physical health of all children and youth, developing and enhancing family and community support and working with specific populations.
  • Participants will gain an increased understanding of current challenges in working with youth
  • Participants also gain knowledge of proactive solutions and best practices for meeting the serious challenges faced by many of our youth today
  • Participants will have an opportunity for networking and program-sharing

BREAKOUT SESSIONS
40+ Breakout sessions will focus on Academic Achievement, Safety & Violence Prevention, Mental and Physical Health of All Children and Youth, Developing and Enhancing Family and Community Support and Working with Specific Populations.

RESOURCE & PROGRAM SHARING EXHIBIT HALL
A Resource and & Program Sharing Exhibit Hall will feature vendors, consultants and booths that offer services and products for youth-service professionals, in addition to a program-sharing area that will highlight specific programs or practices or about specific topics being presented. REGISTRATION PROCEDURE AND DEADLINE
Pre-registration is required. Space is limited. The registration is $175 per person for YIPA members and $215 per person for non-YIPA members.  A group rate is available for 5 or more people registering together from the same organization.  Call for details.  Fee includes materials, lunch and refreshments.  Registrations are due by October 20.  Refunds, less a $25.00 processing fee, will be granted if reservations are cancelled 10 days or more prior to the event. Refund requests made after the event will not be considered. Receipts for payment can be requested at the conference registration.  Questions: Call 1-888-945-YIPA.

HOTEL ACCOMMODATIONS

A block of rooms has been reserved for the conference at the Holiday Inn Express in Roseville.  The rate will be $74 (plus tax) for standard single king or double queen rooms.  Guests can make reservations by calling 800-451-7258 and asking for rooms in the YIPA block.  Unreserved rooms will dropped from the block on Oct. 17. 

A block of rooms has been reserved for the conference at the Country Inn & Suites in Roseville.  The rate will be $88.20 for a standard double queen room.  Guests can make reservations by calling 651-628-3500 and asking for rooms in the MN Youth Intervention Programs Association (YIPA) block.  Unreserved rooms will be dropped from the block on September 26.
